TANGA VILLAGES TO BENEFIT FROM MCC PROJECT!

Over 70 villages in Tanga region would get electricity through a Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) sponsored project to be implemented by the Tanzania Electricity Supply Company (Tanesco).
The Tanesco regional engineer, Mr Martin Ngelege, said here that the project would improve power supply in some villages as one of several projects to be financed by MCC. Mr Ngelege said that the project would be implemented in phases and preparations for implementation of the first phase have been completed.

The preparation includes survey and evaluation aimed at preparing payment of compensation in the 77 villages that would be involved in the project. A total of 27 villages would be covered by the project in Lushoto district.
Tanga City would have 19 areas covered while 14 villages would benefit in Muheza district. Handeni and Korogwe would have seven villages each and from Pangani three villages would be connected.

Other MCC sponsored projects include construction of new transformers stations at Saruji and Sahare in the Tanga City and Kasiga Mombo in Korogwe district. The project would also involve rehabilitation of the main power distribution station at Songa.
Tanga is one of five regions where the MCC funded projects would be implemented. The projects aim at improving power supply services in Tanzania.

Some $206 million (about Sh273.9 billion) will be used to sponsor several projects aimed at improving electricity supply in several parts of the country. The projects are part of a three-year programme to rehabilitate and expand power supply and distribution systems using local and donor funds.

They include a project aimed at improving power transmission to Zanzibar using submarine cable, constructing 8MW power supply project at Malagarasi River and improving electricity supply to Kigoma Region. The funds would also be used for rehabilitating worn out power distribution systems in six Tanzania Mainland regions of Mwanza, Tanga, Morogoro, Iringa, Dodoma and Mbeya.
