The colonial administration buildings, the attractive public buildings and commercial cum residential buildings which are all a century old or more make Tanga built up heritage unique. These buildings are still in use.
There are many buildings like, Katani House, Old Tanga School, Bombo Hospital cliff Block, mkonge Hotel, Eckenforde Teachers college, Eckenforde Secondary school, Palm court. The British era public buildings are newer in design mostly built after WORLD WAR II, where as German era buildings are large and grandiose, making their presence felt where ever they stand. Most of these building have been put in productive use to date.
